A Talk with Poet and Fiction Writer Dr. Jeffrey Newberry

CF Students with a passion for creative writing are encouraged to join Floridian essayist, fiction writer, and poet Dr. Jeffrey Newberry, hosting a talk on the Ocala Campus. It will take place Wednesday, Nov. 16, 12:30-1:45 p.m. in Building 8, Room 110.
A few of his own works include the novel “A Stairway to the Sea” (Pulpwood Press), the poetry collections “Brackish” (Aldrich Press) and “A Visible Sign” (Finishing Line). He has worked alongside fellow Gulf Coast native Brent House, to co-edit the anthology “The Gulf Stream: Poems of the Gulf Coast” (Snake Nation Press).
Newberry’s writing has been extensively acknowledged in a variety of journals, including The American Journal of Poetry, Connotations, Florida Review, Crab Orchard Review, The Cortland Review, North American Review, and Memorious, just to name a few. He is also a book reviewer for The Florida Review and other publications.
He has served on the faculty of the prestigious Sanibel Island Writers Conference and given talks and led panels at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Conference, the Florida Literary Arts Coalition’s Other Words Conference, the Southeastern Writers Association Conference and the Gulf Coast Association of Creative Writing Teachers Conference and many more.
Newberry’s earned his A.A. from Florida Gulf Coast State College and his B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, where as a graduate student he served as the managing editor of Panhandler. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, now teaching in the Writing and Communication program at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia.
