About
The Associate in Science degree in Respiratory Care prepares individuals to perform invasive, noninvasive, and peripheral examinations of the cardiopulmonary system at the request of physicians to aid in diagnoses and therapeutic treatments.
The program utilizes traditional classroom instruction supplemented by laboratory practice and simulations, and supervised clinical practice where the student gains real-world experience evaluating and treating patients with cardiopulmonary distress and disorders.
Progam includes instruction in reviewing and recording patient histories and clinical data, patient care, investigative and examination procedures, cardiopulmonary health assessment and resuscitation; therapy administration, equipment operation and monitoring, and professional standards and ethics.
This is a limited access program with additional requirements beyond the general CF admissions processes. Full-time classes are scheduled to begin Spring 2025, but general education classes can be started Fall 2024.
The College of Central Florida is currently in the process of seeking accreditation for a Respiratory Care program by the Commission for Respiratory Care (CoARC); 264 Precision Blvd.; Telford, TN 37690; PH 817-283-2835 X102; www.coarc.com.
Unfortunately, CoARC is unable to schedule a site visit to meet the deadline for a fall semester accreditation. Due to this scheduling delay, the first class of Respiratory Care students will not start in the Fall 2024 semester as originally planned.
A Jan. 2025 start date is now anticipated for the first Respiratory Care cohort at both the Ocala and Wilton Simpson Citrus Campuses. However, the College of Central Florida can provide no assurance that accreditation will be granted by the CoARC.
Any student who submited the Respiratory Care program application by June 30, 2024, will get first priority for conditional acceptance to the incoming Jan. 2025 class.
