Visit the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, on May 6 for Free First Saturday. Admission is free all day and the public is invited to enjoy the permanent collection, special exhibitions, the Artspace and other special programming.
See “Big & Bold in Modern and Contemporary Art” before it closes on May 21. This exhibition features the largest and most dynamic works from the collection. On view through June 18 are two exhibitions by Florida artists: “Paper Thin & Shadow Deep: Hiromi Mizugai Moneyhun’s Hand-cut Paper Works” and “Pre Post Poetic: Hand-Stitched Collages by Debora Greger.”
At 11 a.m., Ocala neurologist and art enthusiast Dr. Jose Gaudier will give a talk, “Medicine in Art.” This illustrated presentation will focus on medical history as depicted in some of the greatest works of art, including works in the Appleton collection. From Ancient art, Old Masters, Impressionists and Modernists, art and medicine have always been linked. This event is free as part of Free First Saturday; no reservation needed to attend.
“With the galleries full of exciting modern and contemporary art, the recently refreshed European galleries and what will surely be a fascinating presentation by Dr. Jose Gaudier, we hope you will join us for this monthly free day program,” said Victoria Billig, Appleton assistant director.
Free First Saturdays are sponsored in part by Marion Cultural Alliance.
