Financial Aid Policies

Eligibility Determination

College of Central Florida's priority deadline for the 2009-2010 academic year is May 1, 2009. Students who have all documents on file by May 1, 2009, will receive priority funding for all types of aid based on availability of funds. Students applying after this date will be considered late applicants and may be denied any deferment of tuition and fees.

The federal processor uses the information on the FAFSA to determine the amount the family (student and parent or student and spouse) is expected to contribute towards the student's postsecondary education. This amount is referred to as the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

Financial aid is awarded based upon need. Need is the difference between the student's cost of attendance (budget) at CF and the Expected Family Contribution, less any other scholarships, etc., that the student may receive. If this difference is a positive figure, the student is considered to have financial need. The cost of attendance (budget) includes tuition, fees, books and a modest but adequate amount for room, board, transportation and miscellaneous expenses.

Example:

Student's budget for nine months
$ 7,500.00
Less: expected family contribution
- 1,500.00
Less: private scholarship
- 1,500.00
Financial need for nine months
= $ 4,500.00
