Assessment/Testing
The CF Levy Center offers various tests for employment and college entry as well as the Official GED test. In addition, the Center provides interest and ability surveys to help the student focus on his or her future career goals.
Note: Pre-registration is required for most of the tests offered. Payment of testing fees must be made at time of registration. Call 352-493-9533 to schedule tests.
TABE
The Test of Adult Basic Education consists of reading comprehension, mathematics computation, mathematics application, language, and spelling. This test is given in the Survey format in Form 9 or 10 and serves multiple purposes:
Vocational Testing: Many vocational programs require a TABE test to be given at the highest level (A).
Fee: $15 for first-time testing and $5 for retesting.
Testing Time: Approximately 1-½ hours.
Scheduling: Monday at 2 p.m., Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.,
Thursday at 9:00 a.m., or Friday at 9:30 a.m.
Pre-registration is required.
Testing for Adult Education Placement: The Florida Department of Education requires that all adult education students take the TABE to determine their educational level. It is free and is scheduled as part of the Introduction to Adult Education course. In this format, the Locator test (35 min) is given to determine which level of TABE to give.
Fee: FREE
Testing Time: Approximately 3 hours.
Scheduling takes place during the first week of enrollment.
CPT
The Computerized Placement Test consists of reading, sentence Skills, arithmetic, and algebra. It is used as a college placement test for students seeking an Associate in Arts (AA) degree and some Associate in Science (AS) degrees.
Fee: $10 and $5 for retests. Testing Time: Not timed. Usually takes approximately 2 hours. Scheduling: Monday at 2 p.m.,
Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., Thursday at 9:00 a.m. or Friday at 9:30 a.m.
F-BAT
The Florida Basic Abilities Test is designed for those who are pursuing a profession in law enforcement or corrections. A pre-test to prepare for the test is available free of charge.
Fee: $45 Testing Time: Approximately 2 hoursScheduling: Every other Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
Pre-registration is required.
GED
General Educational Development Exam. Candidates who pass the GED examination receive a State of Florida High School Diploma from the Florida Department of Education. The exam is comprised of sub-tests in mathematics, writing skills, science, social studies and reading.
Fee: $70 for entire exam. Individual sub-tests are $14 with a $16 charge for the writing skills sub-test.
Testing Time: The entire exam takes approximately 8 hours to complete. Each Individual sub-test has specific time limits.
GED Scheduling: Potential testers must sign up during the specified registration period.
GED PRACTICE TEST
This test is designed to prepare and measure one's ability to pass the official GED test. Like the official test, it is comprised of mathematics, writing skills, science, social studies and reading. The CF Levy Center uses this test to help prepare individuals for the GED exam, to remediate skills, or as a predictor of success on the GED exam. The entire practice test takes approximately five hours.
