“A New Home: Selections from the Arab American National Museum”
Sept. 20-Nov. 3, 2012
This exhibit features works from two exhibits that provide a broad narrative for the experiences of Arab-Americans. In Times of War, Her Untold Story documents the stories of nine Arab-American women whose lives have been directly or indirectly affected by war. The stories were captured as a part of a mentoring project between university professors and students from the greater Detroit metropolitan area and in most cases are the first time these women have told their emotional stories publicly. A Yemeni Community: Photographs from the 1970s by Milton Rogovin documents the lives of Yemeni community in Lackawanna, New York. Through these photographs, Rogovin highlights the beauty and style of Yemeni culture while touching upon the overall struggle immigrants face to hold on to their traditional culture while embracing their new home.
