Dr. Cassandra Robison
Dr. Cassandra Robison, Associate Professor of Communications, is a teacher and writer with a specialty in poetry. She has published two chapbooks of poetry, Leaving the Pony (2009) and Tundra Heart (2009) and is currently at work on a book of collected poems. Her work has been published in two recent anthologies (Double Lives, Reinvention, and Those We Leave Behind & Magical Kites) as well as numerous print and online magazines. She is founding editor of Magnolia: A Florida Magazine of Literary and Fine Arts. Her primary interests lie in teaching creative writing and offering poetry as a healing art to students and clients in the community. Dr. Robison holds degrees in English (B.A. SUNY Fredonia) and English Education (M.Ed. University of Arizona) as well as a Ph.D. in Education (Walden University) with a focus on adult learning and development. Her dissertation focused on older adult students, typically called “non-traditional learners.” She is particularly interested in learning as transformation.
Originally from upstate New York near Buffalo, Dr. Robison has been teaching for two decades at the community college level and upper level secondary/Advanced Placement levels. At CF, she teaches a variety of courses, including creative writing I and II, directed study in creative writing, American Literature I & II, College Composition I & II, and Prep English. Previously, Dr. Robison was the Reading Lab Coordinator and full time faculty at Manatee Community College, Bradenton, Florida.
She is the Faculty Advisor for CF’s multi-award winning student literary magazine, Imprints, that won Best in State for Overall Excellence in 2007 and 2008. Students who are interested in writing, photography, and graphic arts design should contact her prior to the beginning of a semester.
