Music at CF
CF Vocal Music
Training in Vocal Music at CF gives students a solid foundation in various techniques including classical, Broadway and other popular styles. Under
the direction of Associate Professor Gregory Ruffer, students perform extensively in solo recitals and showcases, ensemble concerts and musical theater shows. In 2009-2010 the Patriot Singers Concert Choir performed selections from Handel’s “Messiah” and Dvorak’s “Mass.” Musical Theater students produce two Broadway shows each year and benefit from frequent campus visits by guest artists.
CF Instrumental Music
Each year, hundreds of students participate in unique musical groups, including concert band, jazz ensemble, woodwind ensemble, flute choir, string ensemble and brass ensemble. The faculty and students are always exploring new repertoire and styles of music literature. Associate Professor Samuel McClung and Associate Professor Dr. Sarah Satterfield, along with a staff of skilled adjunct instructors, maintain the instrumental program with a focus on gaining performing experience.
CF Jazz
The Patriot Blues Jazz Band and Jazz Combo, led by Associate Professor Samuel McClung, is a popular part of the CF Music Department. This student ensemble strives for a professional sound and performance experience, mastering the basics of jazz literature and appearing at a variety of special events throughout the year. In spring 2010, the Patriot Blues recorded its first album Crash and Burn. Listen for the swinging sounds of these groups throughout the year and don’t miss the bi-annual Jazz at the Webber concerts.
