Recent Faculty/Students Achievements
- CFCC Concert Choir sang Mozart’s Regine Coeli in December and teamed with DBCC (Daytona Beach Concert Choir) and SCC (Seminole Concert Choir) for Faure’s Requiem in April.
- Variations presented “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and an original show, “Younger Than Springtime.”
- Hosted a lecture by Andrea Snyder of Dance/USA and Jon Palmer Claridge of Arlington County Cultural Affairs.
- Presented a series of master classes by professional performances and educators.
- Presented a performance by Orlando Ballet II.
- For the second year in a row, the Patriot Blues (jazz ensemble) was asked to open for Lee Greenwood at Silver Springs Attraction. The estimated audience was about 12,000.
- Also for the second year in row, the Jazz Combo performed in support of Taste of Citrus, Chiefland Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet, H.S. Student Visitation Days, and FACC Chapter Officer's Installation.
- For the third year in a row, the Jazz Combo performed in support of CFCC's Citrus Campus open house.
- For the fourth year in a row, the Patriot Blues performed for packed houses in their Spring Jazz At The Webber event with guest the Dan McMillion Jazz Orchestra.
Faculty Achievements
Samuel McClung
- The bands directed by Mr. McClung have been booked at some very high-profile events within the past year, including the annual Best of the Best at Golden Ocala Country Club.
- Mr. McClung received commissions to write pieces for orchestras, concert bands, and jazz (big) bands.
- By the time classes resume in August, Mr. McClung will have produced a recording session (with orchestra).
Gregory Ruffer
- Prepared chorus for the Orlando Philharmonic concerts of Handel’s Messiah and the Music Man.
- Conducted the Orlando Chamber Singers Professional Choir at the annual convention of the Florida Vocal Association.
- Conducted the Orlando Chorale in performances of Mozart’s Requiem in Orlando and Ocala.
- Provided voice-over for Orlando Ballet productions of Snow White.
- Mr. Ruffer commissioned world-renowned composer Jennifer Higdon to write somewhere i have never traveled, gladly beyond with text by e.e. cummings which premiered in March 2007 by The Orlando Chorale.
- Mr. Ruffer appeared as a clinician/adjudicator for the Orange County Public Schools, Heritage Music Festivals, and Cruise Festivals.
Sarah Satterfield
- Dr. Satterfield was nominated Musicology Representative for the Executive Board of
the College Music Society.
- Dr. Satterfield attended the CMS Regional Conference in New Orleans, serving as a session chair, and the CMS Inaugural Summit on Music Entrepreneurship Education in Nashville, serving as a panelist for Oxford University Press.
- Dr. Satterfield presented a lecture on the historical and cultural roots of American gospel music in conjunction with the film series screening of Someone Say Amen.
- Dr. Satterfield presented a recital of Baroque chamber music with violinist Oleg Proskuryna, concertmaster of the Ocala Symphony Orchestra, and harpsichordist Max Yount.
- Dr. Satterfield organized a flute choir gala concert featuring Shaul Ben-Meir, nationally recognized clinician and recording artist, as guest conductor.
Alumni Achievements
- CFCC graduate Rachel Brannan has been awarded a graduate assistantship in flute.
- CFCC graduate Alison Konicek has been accepted into the ethnomusicology program at North Texas, where she serves also as a teaching assistant.
