The Public Policy Institute is built on the traditional democratic principle that citizen involvement and participation is fundamental to a healthy community. It is the concerned citizens of Marion County who can best solve the problems we face. The PPI is designed to provide an opportunity for citizens to come together and address concerns in a rational, thoughtful manner.

Charles R. Dassance, Chair

The Public Policy Institute of Marion County (PPI) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization established in 1999 to provide a careful analysis of the issues and trends that shape and affect public policy. Housed at Central Florida Community College, the Institute is dedicated to advancing public interest, building democracy, enhancing community and improving the quality of life by involving citizens in the process. PPI conducts one major research study each year to address issues of community concern.  The PPI Board of Directors selects study topics with the help of targeted community surveys that include local leaders and decision-makers. Survey outcomes identify the issues most important to our community.  The Board selects an issue that has a timely impact on community quality of life and can be carefully and thoughtfully researched over a 4- to 6-month period based on an outlined scope of study.  Recommendations identified by the study committee during the study process are released to the public at the conclusion of the project. Participation in the study process is free and open to the public.
